Position Title: Crown Advocates

Job Description

At the Crown Prosecution Service, we are responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. As the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales the nature and diversity of cases we advise on and prosecute means our work is often emotionally challenging and complex.

Requirements:

  • To arrange and attend professional courses and undertake all activities to ensure that the Bar Council training requirements are met.
  • Shadow lawyers at Magistrates and Crown courts in order to gain experience of advocacy by observation.
  • Research law and report back to supervisor and other lawyers.
  • Represent the CPS at court and present cases.
  • Attend conferences with police and counsel and meetings with victims and witnesses, under supervision.
  • Assist Caseworkers at court by preparing cases, liaising with witnesses and supporting counsel where required.
  • Correspondence with other CJS agencies, defence lawyers and counsel, under supervision.
  • Provide advice to police on charging, under supervision.
  • Plan and review of pupillage programme with supervisor.
  • Maintain records of work and link to relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Review and preparation of cases, under supervision..

Experience

  • Enhanced personnel skills for negotiation, and achievement, of improved service levels and cost reduction.
  • Appropriate experience of marine crew and landside operators training delivery and/or other transportation services; experience in training delivery using bridge simulators and issue appropriate certification for such to staff.
  • Extensive and recent experience in the daily operations and management of passenger/freight ferries, and their attendant landside terminals and/or other transportation services, hubs or facilities.
