Position Title: Level 2 CPS Panel Advocate Lawyer

Job Description
Subject to the successful candidate satisfying the “general qualification” provision within the meaning of section 71 of the Courts and Service Act 1990, the post is designated by the Director of Public Prosecutions as a Crown Prosecutor under the terms of section 1 (3) of the prosecution of Offences Act (1985).
Requirements:
- According to the BSB applications take 3-4 working days to process.
- Post holders must decide the best way to present and deal with the full range of cases encountered in the Crown Court appropriate to a level 2
- Advocate Panel member. They must possess the confidence to make decisions quickly where necessary, including an assessment of cases not previously reviewed by the post holder or those with which they are unfamiliar. Deciding the best way to prosecute cases and deal with the full range of cases encountered in the Crown Court in accordance with the principles of Better Case Management.
- In order for a barrister with a current practising certificate to amend their status to dual-capacity, they would need to log into “MyBar” via the
- BSB site and complete a ‘Change my Practising Status’ application. This can be found in the ‘My Practising Details’ section.
- The successful applicant must be a qualified practising barrister or solicitor on the CPS Advocate Panel at a minimum of level 2 or be in the process of applying, and must hold a valid Dual Practising Certificate for England and Wales before commencement of employment. This can be applied for by the individual upon offer of employment.
- Applicants must either be members of the CPS Advocate Panel or be in the process of applying. Appointment will be conditional on securing Panel membership**
- Successful candidates will review case files and charging decisions, providing legal advice on cases to be presented in the Crown Court. The successful applicant will analyse, review, prepare and present a wide range of cases at the Crown Court, and will be expected to have up-to-date knowledge of criminal offences appropriate to a level 2 Advocate Panel member. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake casework in respect of advice, review and advocacy, which will include some of the more challenging, serious and sensitive cases.
Experience
- Extensive and recent experience in the daily operations and management of passenger/freight ferries, and their attendant landside terminals and/or other transportation services, hubs or facilities.
- Appropriate experience of marine crew and landside operators training delivery and/or other transportation services; experience in training delivery using bridge simulators and issue appropriate certification for such to staff.
- Enhanced personnel skills for negotiation, and achievement, of improved service levels and cost reduction.
