Job Description

Initially the postholder will work on the more straightforward cases but should progress quickly to deal with more serious casework. On completion of the Crown Prosecutor 5 Learning Stages the postholder will be able to advise police and other investigators (except Statutory pre- charge advice), and undertake Advocacy, review and case preparation in summary and either way matters heard in the magistrates’ court..

Requirements:

• The postholder will require the ability to explain decisions to magistrates, counsel including defence, witnesses, the police and other appropriate agencies in a manner that is appropriate for the recipient.
• To work effectively as part of a multi-skilled team and provide support to Associate Prosecutors, legal trainees and other Crown Prosecutors in case preparation and generally. The postholder will need to consider the needs of others, particularly victims and witnesses in drawing up casework plans.
• To advise police and other investigators (except Statutory pre-charge advice) in a range of preliminary, straightforward and contested casework including some either way cases. The postholder will prepare for prosecutions in summary and either way matters heard in the magistrates’ court.
• To decide based on the evidence whether prosecutions should proceed or be discontinued in summary and either way matters heard in the magistrates’ court.

Experience

• Enhanced personnel skills for negotiation, and achievement, of improved service levels and cost reduction.
• Appropriate experience of marine crew and landside operators training delivery and/or other transportation services; experience in training delivery using bridge simulators and issue appropriate certification for such to staff.
• Extensive and recent experience in the daily operations and management of passenger/freight ferries, and their attendant landside terminals and/or other transportation services, hubs or facilities.
