Job Description

We are now recruiting for two Legal Director General roles to lead a combination of Specialist and Advisory legal teams. As a Legal Director General you will ensure that legal services of the highest quality are provided to your client departments across government, leading the co-ordination of legal work on the most significant current legal issues affecting government. Most recently this has included matters such as Covid 19 and EU Exit. The roles also have a significant people and organisational leadership element and as a member of the GLD Board and Executive Committee you will be responsible for setting direction and strategy for the Department, driving up quality and efficiency and increasing staff engagement.

Responsibilities:

• You will respond to requests promptly, working with the wider office to make sure responses reflect the Permanent Secretary’s and Executive Team’s priorities.
• You will proactively identify conflicts in the various schedules and resolve these quickly and diplomatically, flagging unresolvable conflicts to the Private Secretary.
• You will manage the Permanent Secretary and Executive Team’s diaries, ensuring they are up to date and accurate. Taking care to make sure that that all commitments are reflected.
• You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate meetings, balancing the Permanent Secretary and Executive Team’s availability with that of attendees.
