Job Description:
The Public Spending Group has a high-profile role in Government, setting the Government’s overall spending plans and ensuring they deliver value for money for the taxpayer. We are responsible for reporting to Parliament and the public on how taxpayers’ money is spent. We drive forward improved outcomes and efficiency in public services and enhance the value for money of decision-making through better evaluation, data and analysis.
We advise on overall government policy on public sector pay and pensions, the biggest single driver of public spending. We collaborate with and directly support departments to deliver the Government Finance Function strategy, building finance capability across government and developing the management information, tools and frameworks to better understand and ensure value for money.
Responsibilities:
- The Group Management Service (GMS) team works collaboratively to provide a professional service to the Group Directors and Deputy Directors to ensuring the effective and efficient running of the Public Spending Group so that it meets its corporate and management objectives.
- We are responsive to changing leadership priorities therefore the successful applicants will need to be those who can take a flexible and proactive approach to meeting business needs.
- Proactively schedule meetings and forward plan diaries to ensure Directors/and Deputy Directors time is used efficiently.
Requirements:
- Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders and commission briefings, set deadlines, chase responses as well as deal with diary issues effectively.
- Taking minutes in key meetings and coordinate actions and follow up
- Ensure the Director/Deputy Director are clear on what their agenda is for the day, preparing all diary logistics, including paperwork and briefing material. Ensure that they are in correct location with their briefing papers, and are aware of upcoming appointments.
- Book travel arrangement for the Director/Deputy Director on external engagement
- Anticipate when appropriate to intervene in meetings to pull the Director/Deputy director out to keep their day on track or make them aware of an urgent action.
